MY'STORY

The MOVE Fire

This is a personal recollection on the Move fire on May 13, 1985 Philadelphia police fired thousands of rounds at the MOVE house, city officials approved dropping an explosive device on the roof, the resulting fire was allowed to burn, 11 people—including five children—died, and 61 homes were destroyed. Philadelphia City Council later called it a “brutal attack carried out by the City of Philadelphia on its own citizens” and acknowledged that no individual faced criminal consequences for the bombing. One timeline correction worth preserving for the BHP record: the major previous MOVE-police confrontation was August 8, 1978, about seven years before the bombing, not a year or two earlier. Officer James Ramp was killed, other police and firefighters were wounded, nine MOVE members were later convicted, and television cameras recorded police beating Delbert Africa during his arrest. The 1985 MOVE Commission later specifically criticized city planners for failing to adequately use lessons from that 1978 confrontation. And that actually strengthens the point you’re making: 1985 did not happen without precedent or institutional memory. There had already been a deadly confrontation with MOVE, years of conflict, negotiations and police involvement before Osage Avenue.

Delta Electronics, Inc. (Chinese: 台達電子; also known as DELTA or Delta Electronics) is a Taiwanese electronics manufacturing company. Its headquarters are in Neihu, Taipei. It is known for its DC industrial and computer fans, data center rectifiers, data center liquid cooling systems and switching power supplies.[1] The company operates approximately 200 facilities worldwide, including manufacturing, sales, and R&D centers.[2]

Overview

[edit]

Delta is a major supplier of power components to Apple and Tesla.[3]

Delta is a member of the Taiwan Climate Partnership. The company is committed to reaching net-zero carbon emissions.[4]

Environmental, social and governance

[edit]

Delta has long history of being a leader in the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) space. Among companies based in Taiwan, it was the first to issue a Corporate Social Responsibility (ESG) report in 2005, and publishes a new report annually.[5] It has been listed on the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices for 14 consecutive years and has achieved a top 10% S&P Global CSA score in its most recent 2024 ranking.[6]

Delta was named 24th in Time Magazine's 2024 ranking of the world's most sustainable companies.[7] In addition, Delta was awarded double A-list ratings for the third time in a row by the CDP (formerly Carbon Disclosure Project) in their most recent 2024 ratings.[8]

The company has engaged in a joint project with the National Museum of Marine Science and Technology to engage in coral reef restoration off the northeast coast of Taiwan. Through an ambitious diving program helmed by forty volunteer divers who are also Delta employees, the company plans to transplant and breed over a thousand corals to the marine protected areas around Taiwan. The coral breeding project adopts cryopreservation techniques and Delta's own LED lamps for restoration of the delicate ecosystem.[9]

Delta's U.S. headquarters in Fremont, California, was built in 2016. It showcases many of Delta's own green energy and building automation products in its build. Prominently, it features a geothermal heat pump system and a full rooftop solar system. Delta's own products are most visible through the photovoltaic power generating systems on the roof and carports, the electric vehicle charging stations throughout the property, and managed LED lighting systems. The building was awarded a LEED Zero Energy certification in 2022, an upgrade from the LEED Platinum designation it achieved at the time it was built. At the time of completion, it was the first green building with net-zero energy consumption in the city of Fremont and only the second in the San Francisco Bay Area.[10]

History

Delta Electronics[11] was founded in 1971 in Xinzhuang Town, Taipei County (now Xinzhuang District, New Taipei City). Its first products were TV deflection coils, electronic components and winding magnetic components. It is also a supplier of cooling components.[12][13]

As a result of the US-China trade war, Delta cut its headcount in China by more than half and expanded operations in India and Southeast Asia.[3]

In December 2021, the company announced the acquisition of Universal Instruments Corporation, a United States–based firm, for approximately $89 million. Universal Instruments, which has operated for more than 100 years, continued to operate independently and retained its existing management. The company holds more than 500 patents related to automation technologies.[14]

In July 2022, Delta announced that it would be expanding their Plano, Texas facility with the addition of a 400,000-square-foot manufacturing, research, and development hub that could require more employees and operate on 100% renewable energy by 2030.[2]

In 2025, Delta Electronics and the Indian Institute of Science developed a new EV charging technology that connects more efficiently to the power grid by removing the need for large transformers.[15]

List of Namma Metro stations

The Namma Metro (English: Our metro), also known as Bengaluru Metro, is the rapid transit system serving the city of Bengaluru in India. Out of the operational 83 metro stations of Namma Metro as of August 2025, there are 74 elevated stations, eight underground stations and one at-grade station. The first section (on the Purple Line) of the Namma Metro system opened on 20 October 2011 between Baiyappanahalli and M.G Road. The system is operated by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL). On 25 March 2023, a new section of the Purple Line from Krishnarajapura to Whitefield (Kadugodi) (13.71 km) with 12 new stations was inaugurated by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. After the inauguration, the Purple Line was complete and the Namma Metro became the second longest metro system in India (76.95 km) after Delhi Metro. Currently, it is still the second-longest metro system in India, consisting of 96.1 km of tracks after the inauguration of the Yellow Line. Each line of Namma Metro is identified by a specific colour. The system uses rolling stock of standard gauge and has a combination of elevated, underground and at-grade lines. The metro is operational from about 05:00 to 23:00 hours with trains operating at a frequency of 5 to 15 minutes. The Purple Line connects Challaghatta in the west and Whitefield (Kadugodi) in the east, while the Green Line connects Madavara in the north and Silk Institute in the south and the Yellow line connects Rashtreeya Vidyalaya Road in the south and Delta Electronics Bommasandra in the south east. The network is currently being expanded with the addition of new lines and extensions to existing lines (see below for the complete list of stations).
