Escape from Memory is a young adult novel by Margaret Peterson Haddix. It was published in 2003 by Simon & Schuster.
Kira Landon is a fifteen-year-old girl whose life has been completely normal until her friends talk her into being hypnotized. She finds herself revealing things about a past that she never knew, remembering her mother carrying her through war-torn cobblestone streets while speaking a foreign language. Kira's best friend Lynne pushes her to investigate, but before they can find out anything, Mrs. Landon disappears. That evening, a strange woman shows up at Kira's house, saying that she is her "Aunt Memory".
"Aunt Memory" takes Kira to Crythe, a land where people are trained from childhood to remember everything that ever happens to them. Kira soon discovers that not only is her mother a prisoner in Crythe, but that many people are not who they claim to be. Mrs. Landon is actually Kira's real Aunt Memory, and the woman who had called herself "Aunt Memory" is actually Rona Cummins, an old enemy of Kira's parents who tries to obtain her parents' secrets. As Rona keeps raising the stakes, Kira must find a way to save Lynne, Mrs. Landon, and herself, as well as her parents' memories.

Escape from the Mindmaster is a 1982 maze video game developed and published by Starpath. The game was designed by Dennis Caswell. The game features the a first-person perspective as the navigate six mazes. The player must search the mazes avoiding the wandering creature the Alien Invader and the moving barriers. Their goal is to escape each of the six mazes by finding the differently shaped puzzle pegs and place them in their corresponding slots in as fast as time as possible. The game was designed for the Atari 2600 video game console and is played through the Starpath Supercharger add-on. The hardware increased the potential memory for games for the system. Caswell said he did not recall how he came up with the idea for the Escape from the Mindmaster, but said that he wanted to make a game without any shooting gameplay mechanics and that programming the visuals were particularly difficult. Reviews from video game magazines such as Electronic Fun with Computers & Games, JoyStik and Video Games praised the graphics in the game. While some reviews complimented it as an original maze game, others publications such as Videogaming and Computer Gaming Illustrated and JoyStik said the controls were difficult to learn and the game may not hold the attention of players looking for more action-oriented gameplay respectively. The game would appear in year-end best-of lists from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and Radio-Electronics. It would later appears in best video games of all time lists from Electronic Fun with Computers & Games in 1984 and Flux in 1995.
Escape from New York is a 1981 American independent science fiction action film co-written, co-scored, and directed by John Carpenter. It stars Kurt Russell, Lee Van Cleef, Ernest Borgnine, Donald Pleasence, Isaac Hayes, Harry Dean Stanton, and Adrienne Barbeau. The film is set in 1997 and concerns a future crime-ridden dystopian United States, which has converted Manhattan Island in New York City into the country's sole maximum security prison. Air Force One is hijacked by anti-government insurgents who deliberately crash it into the walled-off borough. Snake Plissken (Russell), a special forces operative turned federal prisoner, is given 24 hours to rescue the President of the United States. Carpenter wrote the film in the mid-1970s in reaction to the Watergate scandal, with additional script contributions from Nick Castle. After the success of Halloween (1978), he had enough influence to begin production and filmed it mainly in St. Louis, Missouri, on an estimated budget of $6 million. Debra Hill and Larry J. Franco served as the producers. Released in the United States on July 10, 1981, the film received positive reviews from critics and was a commercial success, grossing more than $50 million at the box office. Escape from New York was nominated for four Saturn Awards, including Best Science Fiction Film and Best Direction. The film became a cult classic and was followed by a sequel, Escape from L.A. (1996), which was also directed and written by Carpenter and starred Russell.
Escape from Monkey Island is a 2000 adventure game developed and published by LucasArts. It is the fourth game in the Monkey Island series, and the sequel to The Curse of Monkey Island (1997). The game was first released for Microsoft Windows in November 2000, and was ported to Mac OS and PlayStation 2 in 2001. It is the first game in the series to use 3D graphics, and the second game to use the GrimE engine, which was upgraded from its first use in Grim Fandango (1998). The game centers on the pirate Guybrush Threepwood, who returns home with his wife Elaine Marley after their honeymoon, to find her erroneously declared dead, and her office of governor up for election. Guybrush must find a way to restore Elaine to office, while uncovering a plot to turn the Caribbean into a tourist trap, headed by his nemesis LeChuck and an Australian conspirator Ozzie Mandrill. Escape from Monkey Island received positive reviews and was a moderate commercial success. It was ultimately the last LucasArts adventure game to be released, as the company's later projects Full Throttle: Hell on Wheels and Sam & Max: Freelance Police were canceled in 2003 and 2004, respectively. The game was followed by Tales of Monkey Island, released by Telltale Games in 2009.
Before the 1921 destruction of Tulsa’s Greenwood District, Black residents had created a remarkable center of business and community life. The district included stores, professional offices, entertainment venues and homes owned by Black citizens. Understanding Greenwood means learning what was built—not only what was burned.
