The MOVE Fire

This is a personal recollection on the Move fire on May 13, 1985 Philadelphia police fired thousands of rounds at the MOVE house, city officials approved dropping an explosive device on the roof, the resulting fire was allowed to burn, 11 people—including five children—died, and 61 homes were destroyed. Philadelphia City Council later called it a “brutal attack carried out by the City of Philadelphia on its own citizens” and acknowledged that no individual faced criminal consequences for the bombing. One timeline correction worth preserving for the BHP record: the major previous MOVE-police confrontation was August 8, 1978, about seven years before the bombing, not a year or two earlier. Officer James Ramp was killed, other police and firefighters were wounded, nine MOVE members were later convicted, and television cameras recorded police beating Delbert Africa during his arrest. The 1985 MOVE Commission later specifically criticized city planners for failing to adequately use lessons from that 1978 confrontation. And that actually strengthens the point you’re making: 1985 did not happen without precedent or institutional memory. There had already been a deadly confrontation with MOVE, years of conflict, negotiations and police involvement before Osage Avenue.

Kyle Christian Sieg (born April 16, 2001) is an American professional stock car racing driver. He competes full-time in the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series, driving the No. 28 Chevrolet SS for RSS Racing. He is the youngest son of RSS team owner Rod Sieg and brother of current driver Ryan Sieg and the late Shane Sieg.

In 2020, Sieg made his ARCA Menards Series debut for Cook-Finley Racing in the No. 42 Chevrolet in the race at IRP and finished tenth. The next month, he made his debut in the ARCA Menards Series East, finishing eleventh in the race at Dover in Cook-Finley's No. 41 car. He then ran the main ARCA Series/East Series combination race at Bristol, finishing in seventeenth.

In 2021, it was announced that he would run the first four races of the season with hopes of a full season in the No. 28 for his family team, RSS Racing.[1] In those first four races, Sieg would finish in the top-ten in all of them, including two top-five's at Phoenix and Talladega. On May 12, it was announced that Sieg would make his debut in the Xfinity Series in the race at Dover in the No. 90 for DGM Racing in a partnership with RSS Racing.[2] Sieg finished 34th after blowing a tire late in the race. That same weekend, he entered the East Series race at Dover for the second year in a row, finishing thirteenth in the RSS No. 28.

In 2022, Sieg competed part-time for RSS Racing's No. 28, 38, and 39 Ford Mustangs, he would also compete for Rookie of the year honors. At the Wawa 250 at Daytona, Sieg finished tenth, earning his career-best finish.

On February 1, 2023, RSS Racing announced that Kyle would drive full-time in the No. 28 for the 2023 season. On April 22 at Talladega, Sieg was close to scoring his first top-five finish after he was in the top-five in the closing laps of the race but ultimately fell back and finished fifteenth. In 31 races, Sieg scored one top-ten with a seventh place finish in the summer race at Atlanta, had an average finish of 23.5, and finished 22nd in points.

Sieg DNQ'd to start the 2024 season at Daytona. At Michigan, Sieg was running near the top-ten on the last lap down the backstretch where he went low to avoid a spinning Carson Kvapil but got hooked in the left rear by Chandler Smith and both Sieg and Smith went spinning to the inside. Sieg's car caught air, did a blowover, landed on its roof, and scraped on its roof while hitting the inside wall passenger side first before it entered the grass and flipped his car back on all four wheels. Sieg was able to climb out of his car and was unhurt. Sieg would be placed in 28th to finish the race. His car was taken to the NASCAR Research and Development center to be studied, as the video showed the roof flaps, which were used to keep the car on the ground but did not deploy to keep the car on the ground.[3] For the final five races of the season, Kyle and his brother Ryan switched car numbers with Kyle going to the 39 and Ryan to the 28 as Ryan was trying to get his No. 28 more owners points.

2026 Kansas Lottery 300

The 2026 Kansas Lottery 300 was a NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series race held on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas. Contested over 200 laps on the 1.5-mile (2.4 km), it was the tenth race of the 2026 NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series season, and the 26th running of the event. In an eventful race, Taylor Gray, driving for Joe Gibbs Racing, took advantage of a late green flag pit stop and took the lead from Sheldon Creed, leading the final 48 laps to earn his second career NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series win, and his first of the season. Creed finished second, and Justin Allgaier finished third. Jesse Love and Brent Crews rounded out the top five, while William Byron, Cole Custer, Brandon Jones, Sam Mayer, and Ryan Sieg rounded out the top ten. The race was marred by an airborne crash involving Carson Kvapil. On the first lap, Josh Bilicki and Kyle Sieg spun in turn two and brought out the first caution. Shortly after the spin, William Byron made side contact with Kvapil, causing Kvapil to lose control and hit the outside wall. Parker Retzlaff, with nowhere to go, collided with Kvapil at the same time in which he hit the wall, causing him to go airborne. The car lifted off the ground and slid for a few seconds on its roof before flipping one time and landing back on the roof. After crew members planted the car back on all four wheels, Kvapil climbed out under his own power and was released from the infield care center shortly after. This was the second of four races for the Dash 4 Cash program. The drivers eligible for the D4C were Brent Crews, Justin Allgaier, Carson Kvapil, and Sheldon Creed, since they were the highest finishing O'Reilly Series regulars following the race at Bristol. Creed finished in second and claimed the $100,000 bonus.
