Multigrain bread is a type of bread prepared with two or more types of grain. Grains used include barley, flax, millet, oats, wheat, and whole-wheat flour, among others. Some varieties include edible seeds in their preparation, such as flaxseed, quinoa, pumpkin seeds, and sunflower seeds. Rye and sourdough multigrain breads are additional varieties. Preparations include 7-grain and 9-grain bread, among others. Multigrain bread may be prepared using whole, unprocessed grains, although commercial varieties do not necessarily always contain whole grains.
Carrot bread is a type of quick bread, and may also be prepared as a yeast-leavened bread, in which carrots are used as a primary ingredient for flavor, moisture, and natural sweetness. It may be prepared with grated, shredded carrots, or carrot juice. Baking times can vary depending on the amount of juice in the carrots used, and it may be a moist bread. The moisture content of carrot bread can vary depending on whether grated carrots, shredded carrots, or carrot juice is used, which influences both texture and baking time. Carrot bread may have an orange color derived from carrot juice or the carrots used. Additional ingredients used in the preparation of carrot bread may include zucchini (although zucchini itself can be made into zucchini bread), buttermilk, eggs, milk, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, walnuts, ginger and raisins. Carrot bread can be prepared as a sourdough and/or multigrain bread. It may be eaten plain, served with butter, or topped with an icing or glaze. Carrot bread can be served as a means to increase vegetable intake in diets.
Poulsbo Bread is the name of a proprietary variety of multigrain bread that originated in Poulsbo, Washington, United States, in the 1970s, and which was distributed internationally until the 2000s. The creation of the bread was inspired by a Bible passage. As of 2018 it is sold only at a single retail location in Poulsbo.
Sandwich bread (also referred to as sandwich loaf) is bread that is prepared specifically to be used for the preparation of sandwiches. Sandwich breads are produced in many varieties, such as white, whole wheat, sourdough, rye, multigrain and others.
Before the 1921 destruction of Tulsa’s Greenwood District, Black residents had created a remarkable center of business and community life. The district included stores, professional offices, entertainment venues and homes owned by Black citizens. Understanding Greenwood means learning what was built—not only what was burned.
