Percona Server for MySQL is a distribution of the MySQL relational database management system created by Percona. It is similar to MySQL Enterprise from Oracle Corporation. Percona Server for MySQL is an open source relational database management system (RDBMS). It is a free, fully compatible drop in replacement for Oracle MySQL. The software includes a number of scalability, availability, security and backup features only available in MySQL's commercial Enterprise edition. The software includes XtraDB, an enhanced distribution of the InnoDB Storage Engine. The developers aim to retain close compatibility to the official MySQL releases, while focusing on performance and increased visibility into server operations.
MariaDB is a open-source relational database management system (RDBMS) sharing a common heritage with MySQL, from which it was forked in 2009 by original MySQL developers following Oracle Corporation's acquisition of Sun Microsystems, with the intent to keep it free and open-source software under the GNU General Public License. MariaDB originated as a drop-in replacement for MySQL; the two databases have diverged since version 5.6 in some features, syntax, and behaviour. Over sixteen years of independent development, MariaDB has evolved into a distinct database with capabilities spanning transactional, analytical, and AI workloads. The MariaDB Foundation is a non-profit organisation that safeguards the open-source development of MariaDB independently of any commercial entity. MariaDB plc is a commercial entity providing enterprise products, support, and cloud services, owns the MariaDB trademark, and is the largest contributor to MariaDB's codebase. Michael "Monty" Widenius, one of the founders of MySQL AB and the creator of MySQL and MariaDB, serves as the CTO of both MariaDB Foundation and MariaDB plc.
Grafana is an open-source analytics and visualization web application. It connects to time series databases and other data sources, allowing users to build dashboards that display metrics, logs, and traces. Grafana supports data sources including Prometheus, AWS CloudWatch, Graphite, InfluxDB, Elasticsearch, PostgreSQL, and MySQL. Torkel Ödegaard released Grafana in January 2014 as an outgrowth of work on Graphite at Orbitz. The user interface was originally based on version 3 of Kibana. The company behind the project, initially named Raintank, rebranded as Grafana Labs and has raised over $500 million in venture capital funding, reaching a $6 billion valuation in 2024. Since 2021, Grafana has been licensed under the AGPLv3 (previously Apache 2.0). Grafana Labs provides two commercial Grafana offerings: Grafana Cloud for managed deployments and Grafana Enterprise for self-managed environments. Grafana Cloud provides hosted Grafana, managed telemetry services, and additional capabilities such as Adaptive Telemetry for telemetry optimization and Grafana Assistant for AI-assisted observability workflows. Grafana Enterprise contains features including LDAP team synchronization, data source permissions, and reporting.
Before the 1921 destruction of Tulsa’s Greenwood District, Black residents had created a remarkable center of business and community life. The district included stores, professional offices, entertainment venues and homes owned by Black citizens. Understanding Greenwood means learning what was built—not only what was burned.
