Nereus Pharmaceuticals was a pharmaceutical company focused on the development of natural products from marine microbial and other natural sources into small molecule human therapeutics.[4] The major disease area addressed by Nereus is cancer. Nereus was purchased by Triphase Research and Development in 2012.[5]
Until 2004, Nereus used methods licensed from the University of California, San Diego to retrieve and cultivate marine microorganisms, particularly bacteria in the Actinomycetia class and organisms belonging to Kingdom Fungi.[4] Since 2004, the company has focused on commercializing identified bioactive natural products.[4] As of mid-2007, two compounds were being examined in Phase I clinical trials: NPI-2358 and NPI-0052.[4]

Nereus mines microorganisms collected from the ocean to find new small molecule drug candidates, much like older pharmaceutical companies discovered new drugs by screening soil.

Tradipitant, sold under the brand name Nereus, is a medication used as prevention of vomiting induced by motion (motion sickness). It is a neurokinin 1 receptor antagonist. It works by blocking substance P, a small signaling molecule. VLY-686 was purchased by Vanda Pharmaceuticals from Eli Lilly and Company in 2012. Tradipitant was approved for medical use in the United States in December 2025.
Nereus, in Greek mythology, was the eldest son of Pontus and Gaia. Nereus may also refer to:
Motion sickness occurs due to a difference between actual and expected motion. Symptoms commonly include nausea, vomiting, cold sweat, headache, dizziness, tiredness, loss of appetite, and increased salivation. Complications may rarely include dehydration, electrolyte problems, or a lower esophageal tear. The cause of motion sickness is either real or perceived motion. This may include car travel, air travel, sea travel, space travel, or reality simulation. Risk factors include pregnancy, migraines, and Ménière's disease. The diagnosis is based on symptoms. Treatment may include behavioral measures or medications. Behavioral measures include keeping the head still and focusing on the horizon. Three types of medications are useful: antimuscarinics such as scopolamine, H1 antihistamines such as dimenhydrinate, and amphetamines such as dexamphetamine. Side effects, however, may limit the use of medications. A number of medications used for nausea (antiemetics) such as ondansetron are not effective for motion sickness. Many people can be affected with sufficient motion and nearly everyone will experience motion sickness at least once in their lifetime. Susceptibility, however, is variable, with about one-third of the population being susceptible while other people can be affected only under very extreme conditions. Women can be more easily affected than men. Motion sickness has been described since at least the time of Homer (c. eighth century BC).
Before the 1921 destruction of Tulsa’s Greenwood District, Black residents had created a remarkable center of business and community life. The district included stores, professional offices, entertainment venues and homes owned by Black citizens. Understanding Greenwood means learning what was built—not only what was burned.
