The rich client platform (RCP) is a programmer tool that makes it easier to integrate independent software components,[1] where most of the data processing occurs on the client side.[2]
RCP is software consisting of the following components:
With an RCP, programmers can build their own applications on existing computing platforms. Instead of having to write a complete application from scratch, they can benefit from proven and tested features of the framework provided by the platform. Building on a platform facilitates faster application development and integration, while the cross-platform burden is taken on by the platform developers. The platform allows the seamless integration of independent software modules like graphic tools, spreadsheets and mapping technologies into a software application with a simple click of the mouse.[1]
Their creators claim that programs built with RCP are portable to many operating systems while being as rich as client–server applications which use traditional clients.
Open-source examples are the Eclipse, NetBeans and Spring Framework RCPs for Java.

Remote Application Platform (RAP, formerly Rich Ajax Platform) Project is an open-source software project under the Eclipse Technology Project which aims to enable software developers to build Ajax-enabled rich Internet applications by using the Eclipse development model, plugins and a Java-only application programming interface (API). It can be considered a counterpart for web development to the Rich Client Platform (RCP). The API is very similar to RCP so developers who know RCP can reuse extant knowledge. RAP encourages sharing source code between RCP and RAP applications to reduce the development effort for business applications that need both desktop-based and web-based front ends.
RSSOwl is a discontinued news aggregator for RSS and Atom news feeds. It is written in Java and built on the Eclipse Rich Client Platform which uses SWT as a widget toolkit to allow it to fit in with the look and feel of different operating systems while remaining cross-platform. Released under the EPL-1.0 license, RSSOwl is free software. In addition to its full text searches, saved searches, notifications and filters, RSSOwl v2.1 synchronized with the now discontinued Google Reader.
The Bioclipse project is a Java-based, open-source, visual platform for chemo- and bioinformatics based on the Eclipse Rich Client Platform (RCP).
Before the 1921 destruction of Tulsa’s Greenwood District, Black residents had created a remarkable center of business and community life. The district included stores, professional offices, entertainment venues and homes owned by Black citizens. Understanding Greenwood means learning what was built—not only what was burned.
