A safe (also called a strongbox or coffer) is a secure, lockable enclosure that protects objects against theft or fire. A safe is usually a hollow cuboid or cylinder, with one face being removable or hinged to form a door. The body and door may be cast from metal (such as steel) or formed out of plastic through blow molding. Bank teller safes are typically secured to the counter, have a slit opening for dropping valuables into the safe without opening it, and a time-delay combination lock to foil thieves. One key distinction between safe types is whether the safe is secured to a wall or structure or can be moved around.
SAFE may stand for:
Roll Safe is an Internet meme in which British filmmaker and actor Kayode Ewumi, while portraying the character Reece Simpson (also known as Roll Safe) in his own web series Hood Documentary, is seen tapping his finger on his head. The images are used, often with joking caption, to mock poor decision-making and failures in critical thinking, a common format being "You can't X, if there is no Y". The character Roll Safe had first emerged in Vine in 2015. The Hood Documentary episode was published in June 2016 and, months later, was used as a reaction image by some British Twitter accounts. In late January 2017, its popularity increased drastically, especially on the Black Twitter community. Khal of Complex declared it was "the new petty meme for 2017", Desire Thompson of Vibe said it was "the best way to kick off Black History Month", and "robopanda" of Yahoo said the meme "is here to give you the best worst advice". It was included on many best 2017 memes lists, including Thrillist, Complex, BuzzFeed News, The Daily Dot, Insider, BBC News, PCMag, Washington Post, PopBuzz, and MTV UK. The Reddit moderators of the /r/MemeEconomy subreddit told Inverse that they thought it was one of the best memes of 2017. It was a finalist in the 10th Shorty Awards. In 2024, The Daily Dot called the meme "one of the most indelible images" of 2010s Internet.
Safe sex is sexual activity using protective methods or contraceptive devices (such as condoms) to reduce the risk of transmitting or acquiring sexually transmitted infections (STIs), especially HIV. The terms safer sex and protected sex are sometimes preferred, to indicate that even highly effective prevention practices do not eliminate all possible risks. It is also sometimes used colloquially to describe methods aimed at preventing pregnancy that may or may not also lower STI risks. The concept of safe sex emerged in the 1980s as a response to the global AIDS epidemic, and possibly more specifically to the AIDS crisis in the United States. Promoting safe sex is now one of the main aims of sex education and STI prevention, especially reducing new HIV infections. Safe sex is regarded as a harm reduction strategy aimed at reducing the risk of STI transmission. Although some safe sex practices (like condoms) can also be used as birth control (contraception), most forms of contraception do not protect against STIs. Likewise, some safe sex practices, such as partner selection and low-risk sex behavior, might not be effective forms of contraception.
Before the 1921 destruction of Tulsa’s Greenwood District, Black residents had created a remarkable center of business and community life. The district included stores, professional offices, entertainment venues and homes owned by Black citizens. Understanding Greenwood means learning what was built—not only what was burned.
