Scalix is an e-mail and groupware server that runs on Linux, licensed under the Scalix Public License (SPL).[2]
The software provides e-mail, group calendaring and other collaborative software, which are standard in groupware. It can also be accessed from many different clients, most notably Microsoft Outlook, Novell and Evolution (formerly Ximian). It also has an AJAX-based web email and calendaring client named Scalix Web Access.
The software was released by Scalix Corporation and founded by Julie Hanna in 2002, during her tenure as an Entrepreneur In Residence (EIR) at Mayfield Fund. The company was funded by venture firms New Enterprise Associates (NEA), Mohr Davidow Ventures (MDV) and Mayfield Fund. The code is based on the earlier HP OpenMail product, which was licensed from Hewlett-Packard.
In 2006, Scalix had thousands of customers for a total of over a million mailboxes. A majority of customers were migrating away from legacy software like Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Notes.[3]
In July 2007, the company was purchased by Xandros[4][5] and in July 2011 sold to Sebring Software Inc,[6][7] a collaborative integration software company offering on-premises and cloud solutions.
On November 11, 2013, a press release[8] announced a management buy-out and the concurrent release of version 12.0.
The Scalix Public License is based on the Mozilla Public License (MPL); the modifications have not been approved by the Open Source Initiative. The SPL adds an appendix (exhibit b) to the MPL requiring that any products derived from Scalix source code display a "Scalix" logo that links back to the Scalix website, and a copyright notice states that it must be "in the same form as the latest version of the Covered Code distributed by Scalix at the time of distribution of such copy".[2]
Scalix struggled to release the latest version with a maintenance update, announced for Q4/2011, and a major release, announced for Q1/2012,[9] not being released. After a three-year wait, the next major release of Scalix, version 12, was released on November 11, 2013, with support included for Outlook 2010 and 2013.[8][10]

BlackBerry Unified Endpoint Manager (UEM), formerly BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES), designates the middleware software package that is part of the BlackBerry wireless platform supplied by BlackBerry Limited. The software plus service connects to messaging and collaboration software (MDaemon Messaging Server, Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Domino, Novell GroupWise) on enterprise networks to redirect emails and synchronize contacts and calendaring information between servers, desktop workstations, as well as mobile devices. Some third-party connectors exist, including Scalix, Zarafa, Zimbra, and the Google Apps BES Connector, although these are not supported by BlackBerry Limited.
Xandros, Inc. was a software company which sold Xandros Desktop, a Linux distribution. The name Xandros was derived from the X Window System and the Greek island of Andros. Xandros was founded in May 2001 by Linux Global Partners (Will Roseman and Frederick Berenstein). The company was headquartered in New York City with its development office in Ottawa, Canada. Xandros Desktop was based on Corel Linux, a Debian-based distribution that was acquired along with the development team behind the product from Corel Corporation in August 2001 after Corel decided to exit the Linux distribution market. Xandros was a founding member of the Desktop Linux Consortium and a member of the Interop Vendor Alliance. In July 2007, Xandros bought Scalix, a Linux-based email and collaboration product, based on HP OpenMail. In July 2008, Xandros acquired Linspire. In 2013, Xandros, Inc. changed its name to Bridgeways, Inc.[1], and soon after, the Xandros website was taken offline. (The Xandros website was last updated in November 2009.) As a result, DistroWatch listed Xandros as discontinued. On 1 January 2018, PC/OpenSystems LLC purchased Xandros and Linspire from Bridgeways, Inc., and resurrected the Xandros branding with Xandros OpenDesktop[2] (a commercial release) and Xandros OpenServer[3] (a free release), based on Ubuntu 20.04. Xandros OpenDesktop would later be rebranded as Xandros Enterprise Desktop, and Xandros OpenServer would be rebranded as Xandros Enterprise Server, and PC/OpenSystems also introduced free versions named Xandros Community Edition (using GNOME) and Xandros Developer Edition (using dwm).

Before the 1921 destruction of Tulsa’s Greenwood District, Black residents had created a remarkable center of business and community life. The district included stores, professional offices, entertainment venues and homes owned by Black citizens. Understanding Greenwood means learning what was built—not only what was burned.
